King Cobra, Seattle - This Snake’s Got Bite

King Cobra, up on Capitol Hill has officially sunk its fangs into the Seattle music scene. The venue struck at the perfect time-just after the Crocodile Cafe had (un)expectedly closed its doors and Seattle was in the lurch for a venue named after a dangerous animal. Now, only a couple months out of their infancy, King Cobra is booking night after night of fantastic bands. I thought I’d share a couple of the highlights happening over for the next several weeks

I’ve seen Black Eyes and Neckties scorch the floor at the Comet Just before Monotonix lit the damn place on fire. Paired up with high energy dudes jumping off of fences and yelling obscenities at each other (and the crowd) during Amateur wrestling, this should be a night among nights.

Three of Seattle’s Superstars are gathered up here at Capitol Hill’s hottest new digs. Be sure to get here early and stay late. Nothing on this bill is going to disappoint. Thee Emergency is going to be celebrating the release of their new CD Solid due out in May.

The Physics have been touted here by DJ 100 Proof as Seattle’s best Hip Hop group. Considering that they are opening this bill, I can only expect that this is going to be a lit-up show!

Last but not least, King Cobra will be hosting bands this year at the Block Party. Not clear as to who will playing yet but given the current schedule, it’s going to be soemone worth seeing.

Sugar’s Sweet Demise Makes Room for King Cobra

The toilet formerly known as Sugar on Capitol Hill (see past postings) had come across some hard times in the past months. Namely, assholes shooting people, assholes fighting, and assholes being general assholes. Such events lead to the eventual (and deserved) closure of the club. In its place will sprout yet another new music venue King Cobra hosting diverse local and national acts and hopefully filling some of the void created when the Crocodile (un)expectedly closed its doors. This builds on the current trifecta of great stages found in this neck of Capitol Hill - Neumos, The Comet and Chop Suey.

The general plan of King Cobra is to create an intimate venue for local and smaller nat’l bands ranging from hip-hop to punk, alt counrtry to indie along with a chill bar and lounge to hang out in. As far as size, capacity will be 475, seating it neatly in the 10th and Pike scene between the tight quarters of the Comet and much larger Neumo’s

Post Harbor and Born Anchors @ Comet Fri 10/20

This ain’t no sea shanty show.

The Comet Tavern on Capitol hill is quickly becoming my favorite spot to catch local music. Just the other night when I was immersed in the audio ocean that is JUSTICE, I stepped outside for a breath and found myself wandering over from Neumos to the Comet just to have a listen to the band playing in there. It’s a small, seedy, cash-only venue with decades of signatures and graffiti carved into the tables and honestly the PERFECT place to see some local rock.

If you haven’t been, this Sat night Oct 20th could be a good one to bust your cherry. Local bands Post Harbor and Born Anchors play with Soft Lights and You May Die in the Desert.

Post Harbor is generally referred to as having a sound akin to Sunny Day Real Estate. There has been a lot of positive press about their album and their recent touring. From what what I’ve heard, I’d have to agree on all counts.

Born Anchors formed in March this year and have already had the cohesive vision put out an EP. Their sound is heavy and tight and bound to make thewalls of the Comet ring. Check them out.
