New Wolf Parade CD Released Today

Author matt   Filed under Northwest Labels   June 17, 2008

atmountzoomer.jpgMy most-anticipated day in quite a while has arrived. Wolf Parade released At Mount Zoomer today. The Sub Pop band’s release is its second, the first being 2005’s outstanding, mindbending Apologies to the Queen Mary.

I have the record on order, and I’ll post a review here when I’ve soaked in it for a few days.

Nam releases his debut CD, and it’s fun

Author C Mahoney   Filed under Album Review   June 13, 2008

Nam released his new album last Saturday at the Vera Project with Good Medicine (Macklemore, Geologic of Blue Scholars, Khingz, and Gabe Teodros). While I missed the show, I picked up the CD Monday at Sonic Boom. It’s simple. It’s fun. There are definite echoes of the Blue Scholars and Common Market, with tracks like “Where You At Now.” He doesn’t stick to the conscious rap genre though, with lighter tracks like “Feelin’ Fresh” featuring Khingz. “Get Live” is a personal favorite. But it’s all good.

Omnia Mutantor replaces LESBIAN in Noise for Needy Line up!

Author stradhoughton   Filed under Music   June 11, 2008

This Friday LESBIAN had to back out of their benefit show at the Funhouse because their dumb-ass drummer busted up his foot and can’t kick his kickers.  Instead, LESBIAN’s rhythm guitarist Dan LaRochelle is unleashing his new project on us.  Peep this shit:  OMNIA MUTANTOR  which means: “All things change.”  The set will conceptually be sort of a fugue comprised of three themes:        Abgrund         Irrgaten        and Nacht    ….each of the performers will represent one of the three themes:  Dan LaRochelle (from LESBIAN) guitar.(Nacht-night)   Nihilist (from In Memorium) on vokills.(Abgrund-Abyss)  Andrew McInnis (from Lemons & Stallions) on drums.(Irrgaten-Labyrinth)……wow!!

Molly Shannon, Molly Shannon Gives The World a Free Album

Author matt   Filed under Music

Seattle band Molly Shannon, Molly Shannon is giving their  album You think yr the Doctor, I think I’m the Sheriff  to us, the listening public.

Download You think yr the Doctor, I think I’m the Sheriff

When listening for the first time, you just might think you’re hearing Isaac Brock from Modest Mouse fronting a very raw lo-fi sounding Radiohead. While other tracks like Alice Liddell, and Debbie ‘Debra’ Gibson have a more ambient and entrancing feel that I believe would greatly succeed in a place where music and sound are featured in enhancing the visual art experience. Whether it be the backdrop to create the tone and mood of an intricate slow moving indie film, such as one of your own Mr. Lynch or possibly Mr. Kubrick’s if he was still around, to the background music at a soho art gallery opening accompanying darker avante garde art to further your perception and understanding of the piece.  — Jules of NWMB and the fine Seattle Subsonic

Russian Circles at Neumos 6/09/2008

Author Scissorhands   Filed under Music   June 6, 2008

Russian CirclesThis coming Monday, Russian Circles will be rocking at Neumos.  The instrumental Chicago band just released their second full-length album, Station, and I have not been able to stop listening to it.  It is intense, immediate, and gripping in ways not usual for music without vocals.

Station was recorded here in Seattle at Studio Litho by Matt Bayles and was released by local label, Suicide Squeeze.  It also features These Arms Are Snakes guitarist Brian Cook and Past Lives/ex-Bloodbrothers bass player Morgan Henderson.

Daughters and Young Widows open the show.  It should be good.
