Lemons & Stallionsdkj
The Curious Mystery
The Glassy Globes
Brad Dunn
Jewelbox Theater @ the Rendezvous
Friday, 7/18 — $5

Lemons & Stallions is harmolodic meditations from the mind of Andrew McInnis (Golgothan Sunrise, Girth). The last time I saw a performance was two years ago when the band was a duo between McInnis (guitar) and drummer Peijman Kouretchian (Secret Chiefs 3, Girth). Rumor has it on Friday the band will have a 17-year old drumming phenom, two singers, and who knows what else. Andrew’s guitar technique (if that’s what he’s even playing in this incarnation, since he’s a master of many instruments) is a totally unique tapping style, sounding more like an orchestral jazz instrument as opposed to some rock stick.

Curious Mystery are some zoned out, spooky Americana. Dark smoky music for illicit romance. Lawrence Durrell novels transposed to 21st century Seattle. Also playing is Brad Dunn (who used to play with the Curious Mystery). He plays soul-rending, funky tuned solo electric guitar. Songs of heartbreak and deep contemplation by a happy dude.

Abodox
Evangelist
Joe Moore
The Funhouse
Monday, 7/21

If you like heavy fucking music that will mutilate and flip your mind in two, there isn’t too many people doing it as well as the Abodox. Playing at full force with the addition of a second guitarist, riffs fly madly, solos are ripped off with such joyful prowess and abandon, one can’t help but smile. Throw in vocals which sound like twin demons hearkening the apocalypse and the super heavy gruvin’ rhythm section and you will walk away slammed’n'humbled.

Evangelist have a come a long way since I first saw them, pursuing a psyched out and mature twist on American death metal. Or as they’d have it — tru metal.

In between sets, Joe Moore will be playing solo shred guitar sets. Joe plays arpeggios at about 98% the speed of light. Hop on the notes and travel into the realms of deep space.

(Also, a sad word: Master Musicians of Jajouka — a band of North Africans playing a 4,000 year old type of music — amazing music — won’t be playing Neumos on Tuesday night due to issues with entry visas to tour. Fucking bureaucracy disallowing a familial band of musicians playing an ancient musical tradition…this sentence has no end.)
