Initial Sasquatch Lineup Announced

Sasquatch Music Festival

There are some huge names already confirmed for Sasquatch this year as well as some other huge unconfirmed. The official announcement for the preliminary lineup went out over the 107.7 airwaves this morning. Between that and some web scouring, here’s what I found for some of the bands to expect:

R.E.M., (Saturday)
Modest Mouse (Saturday)
The Cure (Sunday)
Death Cab for Cutie (Sunday)
The Flaming Lips (Monday)
Mars Volta -pending (Monday)
Michael Franti and Spearhead
MIA
Built to Spill
The Presidents of the United States of America
Tegan and Sara
Flight of the Conchords
The Blakes
The Hives
The Cops
Cold War Kids
The Cave Singers
The Breeders
Joshua Morrison
Heavenly States
Fleet Foxes
The Cops
Siberian
Ozomatli
65 Days of Static
David Bazan (aka Pedro the Lion)

I also found some others that are rumored to play, tho I haven’t actually heard the official word on them. Lots of local names in here, many made our favorite album/singles of the year listings…
New Pornographers, The National, Beirut, Dedue Fever, Fleet Foxes, The Breeders, Okkervil River, The Little Ones, The Grand Archives, David Bazan, Joshua Morrison, Throw the Statue, Kinski, Battles, Jamie Liddell, Ghostland Observatory, Matt Costa, Awesome, J. Tillman, The Heavenly States, 65 Days of Static, White Heaven?, Mates of State, Blue Scholars, Say Hi, Dyme Def, Siberian, The Shaky Hands

Looks like things are warmin up. Literally. Viva la Springtime!

Oh, I love the matte stephens’ artwork they got for the flyer!

Maybe it’s just me, and I know the logistics (read $$$) behind bringing in the headliners, but I long for the day when these festivals no longer go for the 80s, early 90s nostalgia for the big draw. Believe me, I love the Cure, am a fan of REM and have a music collection that consists of more albums from the 80s and early 90s than I’d like to admit (or OK, I like to admit it), I just think it’s much more exciting to go see bands during their heyday, not 15-25 years later.

That said, please disregard all the above if the Smiths ever reunite.

The one thing I’ve learned (painfully) about festivals like this is “F^CK the headliners”. Last year I got my panties all in a twist about friggen Fergie-the-Turd headlining Bumbershoot. So much so that I boycotted the whole damn thing (Thanks again, AEG… http://www.nwmusicblog.com/2007/07/12/bumber-poop/) as a result I missed a ton of great bands that Reel One slipped under AEG’s radar. I don’t know why these big wig promoters insist on getting the revival tour bands to play the festivals, I can only assume it’s because the 40 yr old who loved R.E.M. in the 90’s has 10X more scratch than joey barista who loves modern music. Chances are, someone NOT headlining actually IS in their heyday.

Maybe this is the year that I go. This lineup looks incredible. I might even say it rivals Austin. Jules?

The Lady is right, and I am with her! I really like R.E.M. and The Cure but find it hard to get excited about bands that have been touring for 1000 years. Hope those 40-year olds with all the moolah are jumping up and down with glee right now.

Let’s hope some of those rumored local performers show up- now THAT list is something to get excited about!

Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks and Crudo (featuring Mike Patton & Dan The Automator) made the official lineup as well as confirmation of lots of the “rumored” bands listed above.

John Says:

Don’t forget about Sera Cahoone! She’s on the lineup too!!

LB Says:

Yeah, LeDoux, don’t forget that shit. And check yer spelling while yer at it, huh? Huh?

Kevin LeDoux Says:

Wow, push your horn rims up your nose and rap my knuckles with a fuckin ruler why don’cha?

LB Says:

MOOHOOHOOHAHAhahahahahahaha!

Kevin LeDoux Says:

They’ve finally got the bands listed by DATE on the Sasquatch site. They were keepin it a secret in the hope of getting Johnny-I-Love-REM-and-The-Cure to open his fat wallet and dump the cash for all 3 days.
