My Introduction and (very tardy) Top 25 of 2007
Hi there,
I’m new to this blog thing. I was asked to join this here site and add my two cents regarding the music I like and know the most about: Hip Hop, Funk, Soul, Breaks, ect.
I am sure some of you are not Hip Hop fans, and that is perfectly OK. What I plan on doing is getting those that are fans of the genre (or curious enough to give my recomendations a chance) hip to what I would consider good hip hop. As many of you know, it does not get many spins on the radio or that reality TV channel that, for some reason, still has the word MUSIC in its name. I personally don’t listen to the radio, nor pay much attention to what is hot on the “streets.” I like good music to nod my head to, plain and simple.
So with that here is my hip-hop related top 25 of 2007…don’t be scuuurrred, you just might like some of it.

Word.
Comprehesive list; I have/like/recognize most of what you posted. The Lyrics Born jam “What You Need” with Galactic was great this year, and so was that Jazzy Jeff record. Why was “Here I Come” on this list, though? That was from “Game Theory” from ‘06. The only Roots single I heard this year was “Marathon Man” and it was a disappointment. Why was it put out?
Common’s newest album is in heavy rotation in my library, especially “Black Maybe”, “Misunderstood (feat Nina Simone’s vox)”, and “I Want You” (with Will.I.Am). For the indie pop crowd, the single “Driving Me Wild” features Lily Allen.
I got an early copy of Wax Tailor’s “Hope and Sorrow late in ‘06 and it appeared in stores early in ‘07. If you like RJD2’s “Deadringer”, Frenchman DJ Cam’s “Underground Vibes” or Shadow’s “Endtroducing” (and who doesn’t?) “Hope and Sorrow” is one to buy.
Listen for the ever-popular Sharon Jones on some vocals here.
“Freedom Walk” on Lifesavas’ “Gutterfly” release is an all-time favorite of mine - a sick beat, the piano sample and guitars inject some soul, and a fat, fat bass line makes turning it up worthwhile. It’s reminiscent of Lyrics Born’s “The Last Trumpet” which is more than faint praise.

Gotta agree with both DJ 100 Proof and Mr levitan on almost everything here. That Wax Tailor album has definitely bee one of my faves over the past year. And the Brother Ali album really surprised me. I liked almost every song on it.
I’d like to hear some more Cancer Rising studio stuff. Saw them last weekend and certainly wasn’t impressed.
