Incredible Source for New (FREE) Music - Yup, more KEXP
Seeing that there has been a lot of KEXP talk on here about who gave what, who ain’t givin crap, who hates who, who loves who, etc, I’ve thought I’d avoid the politics of it all and let you know about a little sum-sumthin’ KEXP can do for YOU.
A couple times a month I’ll be listening to the KEXP and hear a song with such a strong hook or great refrain that I just can’t get it out of my head for days, weeks even. They have such a great ear for finding songs that I end up singing before falling asleep and wake up humming. Now as the cycle goes on and the playlists change, those songs tend to fall off the charts and slip into the ether. What I have discovered is that the KEXP Podcast GIVES you most of these songs for FREE!!! Once a day, some DJ’s most favoritest song gets posted/podcast/whatever just for you.. ta have!
For example, the single that Matt posted last week, 2080 by Yeasayer. It’s up there. Want some new indie-pop, try A-Punk by Vampire Weekend or either of the other 2 VW songs that are there. Certified Air Raid by edIT is some incredible DJ production. Oh you want Mexican Hip hop (and who doesn’t) how about El Microphono form the Mexican Institute of Sound. There is even the electronic dance mastery of Justice’s DANCE and the dark and haunting melodies of Boy with a Coin by Iron and Wine.
Well, shit. Don’t take my word for it. You make up your own mind and check out the KEXP archive online and browse all the songs from this year.
If you’ve got the iTunes and want to subscribe, just search for KEXP and “Song of the Day” and you’ll get each song sent to you daily.
So there. If you gave your obligatory $100 bucks, KEXP just made it worth your while. If you didn’t give a red cent cuz’n yer all pissed off’n stuff, well you might think about it… or not. That’s your call. Regardless, you now have something worthwhile and tangible without having to delve into the who’s making how much and if you are just paying for bloated salaries. Without KEXP you’d probably never have heard of this stuff, let alone have it for free. Happy Day.

I am stoked to have found some gems in the past week:
Chuck D on The Go! Team’s “Flashlight Fight” and Lyrics Born with Galactic on “What You Need”. I was even won over by the new Iron and Wine. Thanks to kev for the head’s up.
