LIVE MUSIC IN SEATTLE THIS WEEK

Author Jared Nelson   Filed under Music   October 22, 2007

Folks, this is a big one…

Monday, 10/22
Tost (Fremont)
513 N 36th

Micheal Shrieve +guests ::: $5 ::: cheesy one but if you’ve heard his 10 minute drum solo on Santana’s 1974 Japanese only live album “Lotus” it makes it worth it. I’m pretty sure the trumpet player is from Downtown Apostles who I saw last weekend and he’s a psyched super jazz trumpeter dude.

Wednesday, 10/24

608 Club (Ballard)
608 NW 65th
(E-Sphere’s pad)

Estradasphere and a girl from the Dresden Dolls, who I’ve never heard. THis is the first of three shows they’re doing there this week (Thursday & Saturday also). But due to TONS of other music on those days, maybe check it out this day. The last show these guys threw was awesome!

Thursday, 10/25 (Day of Doom)
Rendezvous (Belltown)
2322 Second Avenue

Wah Wah Exit Wound
Oren Ambarchi
Sir Richard Bishop

$10 pre-sale at Wall of Sound Records (limited to 65). Bishop is amazing. Ambarchi was in town on Sunday with Burial Chamber Trio and is doing a solo set.

Funhouse (Seattle Center)
206 5th Ave. N

Thrones
Grey Daturas (Aus)
Iron Long
Hemingway
My Disco (Aus)

$6 - super drone/noise night

Tractor Tavern (Ballard)

Lesbian
The Accused
Neil Hamburger

FREE!!! These three dudes for free at a place usually reserved for crap-ass alt.country bands? Fucking hell. Good play, sirs. (Not to mention that Lesbian is hitting the road soon but this will be their 2nd out of 3 shows this week - hard work!)

High on Fire is playing somewhere this night as well, but you could probably read about it anywhere. Not to mention another one of those Estradesphere shows.

Friday, 10/25

El Corazon (Eastlake)
109 Eastlake Ave. E.

SSP wrestling presents “Bloodsport”
with music from
Him (cover night)
Lesbian

$10 adv/$12 at doors

Saturday, 10/27

Blue Moon Tavern (U-District)
715 NE 45th

Diminished Men
Morraine

Seamonster Lounge (Wallingford)
2202 N 45th

Now both of these shows are free and they’re about a 10 minute walk from each other. Diminished Men’s first show back since spending a few months digging in with a new bassist and it is very welcome to have their Ennio Morricone-psych surf returning. Morraine is violin/cello/guitar/bass/drums sometimes summoning Can and Algarnas Tradgard. Suffering Fuckheads are some fine Seattle freak-jazz that is quite often beautiful and virtuostic featuring Ron Weinstein (Crack Sabbath and more) and Mike Peterson (Sean, Apes of Wrath, much more).

My recommendation — go to both shows. When you step out for a cigarette or talk, walk to one venue, dig some music, turn around, walk to other place. Bring some smoke and hit it on the way. You’ll see three great bands for the price of FREE and get some exercise.

Greenhouse (Central District)
2515 S. Charles Street

Greenhouse is a local DIY venue, just basically a good dude’s basement. Always a chill vibe and free to get into. Tonight is their Halloween Bash which has some weird ass name and features

Doomhawk
Wah Wah Exit Wound
Diesto (PDX)

Don’t forget there’s the third of those E-sphere shows that night as well.

So there’s your “alternative” to the supposed “alternative” representations of our local weeklies (which still supply good info and I’m sure there’s a bunch of other stuff since I tend to concentrate on the heavy/noisy/experimental/generally freaky music scenes)
