I Don’t Care For Led Zeppelin
Sorry for the heresy, but I don’t care for them (fighting words in today’s [faux-]nostalgia-crazed music scene).
In high school I listened to Zeppelin hour almost every night on the radio. I read Hammer of the Gods. I had a bunch of their albums.
It just hasn’t stayed relevant to me. Sure it’s a big sound, sure it evokes fantasies of Viking ships crossing chilly seas, and yes whatshisname played with drumsticks so big they were nicknamed “trees”. All very good, but not my cup of tea. I swore them off in the early 1990s and haven’t looked back.
I still enjoy a few numbers off of Houses of the Holy, but that’s, er, because of a certain nostalgia.

Do me a favor if you haven’t done it already. Buy the led zep live dvd. Smoke some pot. Watch the whole fucking thing from beginning to end. Then a week later do it again, but without the grass. THEN tell me if you don’t like the zep. If you don’t there is no hope and I will leave you with your wolf charade and your faust. If you DO…psst, pass it on.
What’s that, like 6 hours and a bag of weed? That’s a pretty high bar to jump to do your test.
Can’t I just listen to Hairway to Steven ten times, oops, I meant Stairway to Heaven?
(I’d do it for Live at Pompeii, for what it’s worth. Wait, I already know I love Pink Floyd. Don’t need to test myself. Ah hell maybe I’ll do it anyway.)
Throwing Zep under the (death) bus? Dang.
That’s harsh.
I mean, they are like the thesaurus of rock and roll. They didn’t *invent* everything, but they surely point the way forward.
