Attention Spoon fans!
Hey there Spoon fans (ahem, Matt, et al. ). Check out the site below — they’re streaming a song a day until June 15th where then, you’ll be able to hear the whole album! Sweet! Record is due to hit the shelves July 10th.
Remember, you heard it here first, on Northwest Music Blog, not on myspace, ok?
Side note, My friend Carolyn said something really funny one day. She said “If I could marry a band, I would marry Spoon”.

If I could marry a band, it would be Pavement — but I would be tempted to have affairs with the Black Keys and Spoon!
I’d marry Queen…does that mean I’m gay?
Or maybe I’d marry the Replacements…does that mean I’m a sloppy drunk?
Perhaps I’d marry The White Stripes…and then get weirder & proggyer as I get older.
Nope, I think I’d marry Queens of the Stone Age…that way I could be as aggressive and eccentric and loud as I want and people would still respect me.
I am not comfortable with going full-bore and saying that I would marry Queens of the Stone Age, but I shore do like the analysis.
Hmm. This seems like fodder for a new thread. I think David Bowie could also get the same categorization as Queens. Eccentric and loud but still respectable. Though he changes music styles more than them.
But you know, we have the privilege of seeing David Bowie age and man, the 80s were hard on him. I probably would have dumped him right after China Girl and Dancing in the Streets.
David Bowie looks good, especially for someone who doesn’t remember the 70’s.
You know what I love about the new album’s name? Hearing the DJ say “Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga”. Brilliant.
I’d marry Amy Millan. As for the far-less-important Spoon thingy we’re going on about, I may or may not have gotten a leaked copy of Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga and may or may not have been listening to it for a couple weeks now (got that US District Attorneys?), all the time trying to hate it. My dislike for it burned bright at first, but faded no matter how often I stoked it with relistens.
I like it now. A couple songs I still have rated One Star in iTunes, so it’s got some losers on it, but Spoon has been getting less consistent since their second release, so it’s expected.
(They have released a number of EPs, which for the record I must say are outstanding throughout.)
Jules: I am personally a bigger fan of Van Halen’s cover the Kinks’ “Dancing in the Streets.”
For second there I thought you were ragging on “Let’s Dance”. Remember: Stevie Ray Vaughan can do no wrong!
Now that I have that tune in my head, I don’t think that was originally the Kinks.
Hey Dan, I just looked it up, Dancing in the streets was originally recorded by Martha and the Vandellas. I can see vividly the video on MTV of Mick Jaggers and David Bowie’s remake. Not a fan of that. I like Let’s Dance. I also LOVE Hunky Dory all the way through. After seeing The Life Aquatic, it renewed my interest in old Bowie.
I have to agree with matt with his opinions of Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga (you think it’s hard for DJ’s to say that… typing it is just as tough) I have found 2 absolute winners on this album burried in a sea of adult contemporary. I may be well into my 30’s but I am NOT ready for the Mtn Music lounge yet.
I love the Underdog, and Cherry bomb. Brit played acoustic versions of these when he was at the Crocodile before Sasquatch. I truly think that these songs worked better in that minimalist format, deriving all of their energy directly from the spitting and almost violent vocals. Regardless, I’m not going to write this off yet, maybe I’ll be really glad to have it when I get old and losing my hair many years from now.
Yeah, I’d marry the Beatles.
I would marry Maktub they are just so sexy, and I like local relationships, I would have picked the Beatles but two are dead and I don’t think I could handle a long distance relation ship. If I could pick which Maktub it would be the Alex Veley Maktub ( I hope I spelled his last name right) no a fence to Daniel and Thad I just liked that version better. And I hear you on the whole KMTT thing I used to listen to that station a lot but now it just boars the crap out of me. I just got the Killers CD and I really like it, wish there were more solos though, what happened to solos a lot of local bands don’t play solos I like me a good solo, got to check out TJ Berry in the Panda Conspiracy, he plays good solos, also plays with the Mob Law and Missing Players sometimes. Well if you got the time check out my band this Thursday at the Skylark we are called Daybreak. and remember you heard it hear first unless of course you have us as a friend on Myspace http://www.myspace.com/musicbydaybreak
I just heard Brit Daniel moved to Portland. I wonder if the rest of the band moved there, too.
Carolyn, did you hear it from Cheryl Waters/KEXP this morning? I did and just made a post about it :-).
Yes, I heard it on KEXP. Gerald Collier moved to Portland, too. Maybe it’s the legalized pot.
