Jucifer, The Ruby Doe, and The Keeper

Thursday March 8th, 21+, $8adv/$10dos

Here is what Hannah Levin says about the show in The Seattle Weekly,

“There are plenty of shows worth resting up for this week, including the sludgy triple-threat at the Crocodile on Thursday, March 9. Combining the deliciously schizoid sonic reductions of Jucifer, the thunderous, metallic hard rock of the Ruby Doe, and the cheeky bombast of local metal mischief-makers the Keeper is damn smart booking and a surefire bet for anyone who never tires of listening to Motorhead’s “Ace of Spades.” Just beware of the inevitable bangover such an unholy trinity is bound to induce…”

The Ruby Doe has been one of my favorite bands for some time and I am stoked to see Jucifer again. Below are links to myspace pages to hear some songs…

The Ruby Doe kick ass. I saw them at a KEXP BBQ event years ago. Good stuff.

I love those descriptions of the bands. Jucifer was good. The Ruby Doe played mostly new stuff. The Keeper was good. Fun show!

It was a good show. I thought the Keeper was alright. I thought they sounded like a heavy-metal-spoken-word-Radiohead fronted by Chris Farley. They were pretty entertaining. If anyone out there likes local band PartMan PartHorse, the Keeper is kind of a metal version of that.

The Ruby Doe was great, although all the broken strings meant their set wasn’t quite as tight as it normaly is. They played five new songs: “Papermate”, “Get Ahead”, “Turbo Tax”, “Trap ‘er Keep ‘er” and one I’m sure of the title (”Count the Money” maybe?). Plus 4 songs from Always With Wings, 1 song from Dream Engine Blue, and 2 from The Flame and the Fury.

Jucifer’s amp set reaches a level of Spinal Tap absurdity. I counted at least 15 different cabinets. I thought they were great when they were actually playing their songs, but spent too much time just being really loud.

Overall a great night for heavy music.
