Re-bar
Went to the Re-bar last night for Harsh, the Re-bar’s experimental music & noise night (third Thursdays). It was actually pretty cool.
The club is dark, the dj’s are very underground, the crowd is nothing if not simply on the far fringe of music fandom. The music is different.
I’ll review the noise artist we saw in an upcoming entry. I have his email address and need to do an email interview. Until then, check out the cool release poster:

Seattle is a hotbed for “experimental” music…tons of shows in this category. A lot of isn’t even that harsh sounding and a lot of the folks that try to be “arty” etc tend to just be posers ( the current curse of the hipster ). But I highly recommend checking out as many “harder-listening” shows as well (or picking up music by the current heavyweights — Sunn 0))), Merzbow, Wolf Eyes, Boris).
It casts new light on old bands as you can track way more musical influences through the past and helps one realized the fine line between straight, unimaginiative rock and more true music (in my humble opinion).
Also — for anyone interested in some stuff that’s way out there, my label — 1/2 Ass Universe — is putting out a run of 50 cds next week of some noise-rock/free-rock:
Wolf-Horse/R.I.G.E.L.
HA 008
Track One – “How Joe Lost His 8 Foot Snake and How He Loved It” recorded Live @ Tost, Fremont, Seattle — spring ‘06 — heavy heavy ambient drone w/ Dave Webb (Girth, Wah-Wah Exit Wound) on drums, keyboards, Roman T White (Disciples of Sedgwick, Boys of Summer) on keyboards and guitars & Jared Nelson (Wah-Wah Exit Wound, Contraband Countryband, Boys of Summer ) on guitar. Also featuring DJ Leopold Bloom (turntables) and Dash Pilcher (Sway) on percussion.
Track Two — “SLO Massacre” recorded live @ Two Dogs Cafe, San Luis Obispo, CA — violent 25 minute cut of Roman, Dave and Jared pushing the boundaries. Constant rotatino of instruments keeps things interesting beginning with a horrific keyboard drone intro and culminating in the exploding violence of a double-drum kit and barely restrained insanity.

Covers art was designed by Dave Webb, we screen-printed them all ourselves, numbered editions, special inserts! There’s only 50 of these $8 a pop.
