Liking the New Shins

Author matt   Filed under Music   December 8, 2006

The ShinsI’ve heard the Shin’s new single Phantom Limb on KEXP a few times, and it’s instantly recognizable, and instantly excellent, to me.

The Shins’ third album that contains it — Wincing the Night Away — is should be out sometime in 2007.

I was discussing the Shins with fellow NWM Blogger Samantha, and she mentioned her wish they’d do something a little different. I don’t subscribe to that, unless they started sucking. This single shows me they aren’t sucking, so I’m fine with the Shins.

If you can stand inane television dialog overtop your music, the song is in this “The OC” composite video:

I would be sad if the shins changed their sound. There’s something so warm and comfy about it. I also like the OC :) And Laguna Beach for that matter. I miss cable.

I don’t want them to change their sound, just do something a little different with it. It’s beginning to feel silly buying albums that sound so exactly the same.

I’m loving the new album…the O.C. video, not so much :)

My favorite song from the new album is the last track, “A Comet Appears”. Beautiful and sad.
