Recommended Shows for November

Author Kevin LeDoux   Filed under NW Show Critic   October 26, 2006

Rock-Tober might be finished but that does not meant it is time for the rock to stop. It might even be said that one cannot stop the rock.

So November is no where near as Hip-Happenin as October was, but there are some true gems that are worth braving the crappy fall weather for. The #1 of the month being this:

Nov 10th at the Tractor $12
Split Lip Rayfield - nuthin but breakneck neo-bluegrass with a pissed off guy on a one stringed gas tank bass.
WITH extra super special guest
I Can Lick Any Son of a Bitch in the House - enilightened anti-establishment rednecks with a Portland sound stripped from the mud bogs of Arklansas
I’ve seen both of these bands rock the Tractor before. SOB has opened for the now defunct Radio Nationals who vowed never to let a band THAT much better than them ever open a show again! Split Lip makes even the slack armed Seattle crowd jam out. period. My friend Mike who doesn’t really leave the house for anything short of Cheetos or a flood has plans to see this show, then travel to Portland with them and see the newly added show at the Tractor on Nov 12th (keep this date in mind.. as you’ll see, there is a LOT going on Nov 10th… nothing quite THIS good though)

Here are the rest of my shows-to-see

wed NOV 1
Joan Jett w/ Eagles of Death Metal
Showbox $25
Who doesn’t think Joan Jett is a butt rockers wet dream?

Fri Nov 3
Cops w/ Kinski
Crocodile $10
Lots of local boys making lots of noise.

Minus the Bear
Neumos $10

Sun Nov5
Band of horses
Showbox $15

Fri Nov 10 (whoo boy, choices, choices)
Split Lip w/ SOB
Tractor $12

Thee Emergency
High Dive $7
More local rock and the price is right

The Valley w/ Skullbot
Sunset $6
I’d be here if it weren’t for SL and SOB

Built to Spill
Pyramid Brewery $18

Good luck figuring out your Friday!

Sun Nov 12
Split Lip Rayfield w/ Chuckanut Drive
Tractor $12
If you don’t catch the Friday show, see this

Mon Nov 13
The Rapture
El Corazon $18

Wed Nov 15
John Lee Hooker Jr.
Triple Door $16
If you’ve never been to the Triple Door, this is a good show to break in with. it’s my favorite venue in Seattle… by far.

Thurs Nov 16
Reggie Watts
Triple Door $18
A genius or a freak… you decide.

Sat Nov 18
Southern Culture on the Skids
Tractor $15
Along with SL and SOB this could make the Nov rock trifecta

Now, I’m not a huge fan of Hip-Hop shows - for some reason the sound guy always seems to be the same ass that drives that SUV with the license frame buzzing to the beat thus canceling all of the vocals and making a rather grey mush soup of noise - but as the rest of Nov is pretty dry, I have to throw in these

Sun Nov 19
Talib Kweli
Showbox $25

Wed Nov 22
Blue Scholars
Showbox $12

Finally
Thurs Nov 30
PRIMUS!!!
Paramount $38 friggen bucks not incuding the Ticketmaster rape charges. As much as I’d like to seee this show, I’d rather head to the Tin Hat, plug the juke box and save $25.

Hook me up with any thoughts, critiques, or shows you wanna see.

I have found the sound at Showbox for Quannum Tour and DJ Shadow to be quite good. But like The Black Keys last month, being up in the NE-side bar is going to doom your boom.
